Some christmas projects

I was recently in a secret santa swap and I thought I would share the ornament & container I made for my secret santa. Unfortunately the ornament did not make it to her in one piece :( I used some Stampin Up rub ons on a clear ornament, added some jewels to the little snowflakes, put some buttons inside & added some ribbon to the top. It turned out pretty cute.

And this is the container that the ornament went in. It was a hot cocoa container that I had & altered. I used K&Co. paper along with some cardstock, glitter, velvet ribbon snowflake diecuts and punches & buttons.

I entered a couple secret cupid swaps too & can't wait to start on some cute valentine stuff to give to my secret cupid.

New Look

So I found this site that has some free blog backgrounds that are super easy to apply so I thought I'd give my blog a new look! If you see changes happening on my blog, Im probably just playing around :) But I do like this one. You can check out the backgrounds at HERE

I haven't been creating much lately and now I've got the itch to do some reorganizing in my scraproom especially after my hubby put up some shelving for me. I have a few pics of things I created this month and maybe I'll get those up.

Recipe Challenge

It's Tuesday which means it's time for a recipe challenge! This week I made a card that has a bit of a different fold to it which was simple and fun. The challenge for this week was to create a card using chipboard, paint & circles. I made a chipboard snowflake with my cuttlebug snowflake die, painted it pink and added some "flakes" to it. The circles I punched out with my circle punches. I also brushed a bit of pink paint onto my red cardstock. The "Peace" is a die from SU and my patterned papers are K & Co.

Recipe Card

Yes, I know I'm still a slacker lol, at least I have a recipe card to share with you all today :) This week's recipe was to use eyelets, rubons & ribbon so I made a card to add to my Christmas card stash (something I need to think about getting out soon). The snowflakes are rubons ad I punched out the snowflakes that are on top of those.
So, here's my card & maybe, just maybe I'll post more this week lol.

Do you like Virtual Crops?

I am hosting a Virtual Card Crop from 11/29/08 - 12/7/08 and would love it if you joined us! There will be daily challenges, Christmas decorating & gift giving ideas and prizes!

The Virtual Crop is going on over at wisconsin scrappers When you reach this site you will have to click on "message boards" and then you will have to register to be a part of the board & wait for approval from the board administrator in order to participate. Don't worry, you don't have to live in Wisconsin in order to be a part of the message board or the Virtual Crop so if you join, just jump right in, there's a great group of ladies over there.

I actually did some work this evening! I worked on 2 shaker cards for a class I will be teaching in January. They need something more on them so I have to take them to the lss and see if we can find something that'll complete them. They're cute and they're a Valentine card.

For now though I thought I'd share a tree I was thinking of taking over to my parent's for Thanksgiving. I made it last month and Im calling it a tree of thanks. Everyone will write on a leaf what they are thankful for then we'll either keep the leaves through the years and add them to the "tree" or make a mini book with the leaves in it. I'll see what my mom would like to do. It makes a great easy, inexpensive & unique center piece for your thanksgiving table.

Here's a close up of the leaves to write on.I hope to share more later in the week. I have another project Im working on for another Jan. class & I have to get some pumpkins made & sample notecards that we will be making at Thanksgiving yet this week. Plus I'd like to start decorating for Christmas outside later in the week. So if I remember to take pics I will have things to share so check back later in the week.

Bad Blogger

Im a bad blogger, I see it's been a couple weeks since Ive last posted. Ive been working on a few things but not a lot. I t seems since I moved my scrapspace to the basement I haven't scrapped as much and what I do scrap is usually for the classes I teach.

Im really going to work on posting more often. It probably won't be every day but maybe like twice a week. I have some Christmas projects Ive been planning out in my head so we'll see. Im also hosting a virtual card crop the end of the month so hopefully I'll have lots to get posted :) So, check back and maybe you'll see something new :)

Yesterday's Recipe Card

This week was my week to choose the recipe for the recipe challenge at Tamara's Sketches. So, my recipe was bling, a non-scrapping item & a punch.

I've had this caning from an old chair laying around forever and I decided to use it on my card this week. I found this challenge to be a little challenging (I guess that's why they call them challenges lol). You'd think I'd make the recipe easier so I could just whip something up lol, nope not me. The punch I used was a little flower punch and my "bling" is the little jewels in the center of the flowers. I used a sketch at scrapfreak to create this card too.

I've actually been doing some creating but haven't taken the time to post everything on the blog. The rest of this week I have to get my treat bags completed for my trick or treaters. Hopefully I'll remember to take a pic of those and post them.

Recipe Challenge Tuesday

Hello everyone, it's tuesday which means time for another recipe challenge for Sketches by Tamara. I took last week off, I feel like my scrapping life has been busy busy lately with classes at my lss and get my new cuttlebug blog up and going and I feel like I haven't had a chance to make anything for myself lately. Ah who am I kidding, I hardly ever make anything for myself lol.

This coming weekend we have our cuttlebug camp going on over at Cuttlebug Challenges and there will be prizes and lots of workshops and other things going on all weekend over there so be sure to check it out! Im hostessing a few of the workshops so I'll be posting some of those things here on my blog too. I still have to get some of those items made :)

Anyway onto today's challenge. I had to create a card using staples, gingham & paper piercing. This is the first time I have tried paper piercing, Im not sure I like how it turned out on this particular card, but I've seen it on other people's work and I love it, guess I just need to try some more. Besides the recipe challenge, this is also a card I made for one of the freaky friday challenges over at Scrapfreak. Here's my card.

Recipe Challenge

It's tuesday which means it's time for another recipe challenge card. This week's challenge was to use paint, buttons and distressing. This card came together perfectly for me and I love how it turned out! I love the shabby chic look of it. I painted the cardboard, the edges of the pink paper and the punched out snowflake too. I think I need to use paint more :) You can't really see it to well but the little tag off the snowflake says Merry Christmas.

OK here's my card.

I just wanted to note too that at the beginning of the year I joined a challenge to make my Christmas cards monthly so by the end of Oct. I would have them all complete. I had to make 4 cards a month in order to have what I needed to send out. Well yesterday I counted all my christmas cards and I have 39 of them made! Wooo hooo! I missed some months but obviously I made it up somewhere along the way lol. So just one more to make and I met my goal! I will probably make some more to have for my stash though.

And my update for world card making day, I didn't make any cards, I actually didn't scrap at all on saturday. I really do need to get back into it though, I have too many things I want to get done. I also have a busy week/weekend ahead of me.

Have a great day everyone!

It's world card making day, are you whippin up some cards today? I hope to get some things done, maybe not necessarily cards but we'll see. My 2 nieces are coming over tomorrow to do some scrapping too so hopefully I'll get lots done this weekend...if I ever get off this computer :) Hopefully I'll have some things to share later on.

Recipe Card Challenge

It's tuesday which means it's time for a new recipe card. This week's recipe was to use a transparent item, ribbon and stampin' dimensionals (or pop dots). I made another Christmas card for my stash. I used my cuttlebug to emboss the blue shimmery patterned papers, the 3 snowflakes on the card are ghost shapes from Heidi Swap, the scalloped "Merry Christmas" is pop dotted to give the card a little dimension. I love the shabby chicness of this card. Thanks for looking.

Weekly Cuttlebug Design Team Call

I'm searching for some fellow Cuttlebug addicts to be a part of my weekly Cuttlebug challenge design team. This is something new I am trying out so the initial design team would only have to commit to one month with the option of being a part of it for longer.

Here's how it will work, I will give you the challenge a week prior and you will have until Monday to submit your card/project to me. The challenge and your card/project will be posted on Wednesdays.

The challenges will be fairly simple, I will not be doing sketches (at least not regularly, maybe one challenge will be to use a sketch :) ) you are allowed to use the cuttlebug challenge along with another weekly challenge somewhere else if you wish. This challenge is purely for fun there won't be any prizes etc. given out, just some awesome inspiration.

Right now I am looking for 3 design team members. If you are interested in being a part of the design team just leave me a comment with a link to some of your cuttlebug work. I will be running this until midnight CST Tuesday Sept. 23 .

Thanks for participating and I can't wait to see everyone's work.

Tuesday Recipe Card

Wow these recipe challenges really seem to sneak up on me lately lol. I squeeked this one in this week (Im still trying to get the scraproom organized). This week's recipe was to use brads, scallops and monochromatic colors. I knew right away I wanted to use my new stamp I picked up last week for this one. It's a Hero Arts owl stamp, this owl is big! What sold me on it was I saw someone make a mini album from it and you know me and mini albums...love 'em! So I just had to get this stamp and maybe soon I'll have a mini album of it to share :) I also used a piece of cardboard for the tag on this, I am really loving the cardboard, it adds a little extra texture, I love the grungey look of it and best of all its free! Ok, on to the card :)

Tuesday Recipe Card

Here's my card for this weeks Recipe challenge at http://www.sketchesbytamara.blogspot.com/ For some reason it took me forever to do this one. Im not the greatest at coloring stamps so I had quite a few trials of the stamped image before I got one I liked :) Our recipe challenge this week was to use lace, buttons and flowers. The paper and lace is from Making Memories, the birdhouse stamp and pointsettas are from Hero Arts. I love this stamp. Be sure to head on over to Tamara's sketches to check out what the other gals on the design team did with this challenge.

Im a Winner!!!!!

Yay! I won a stamp set over at the Hero Arts blog! Whenever I try to win some blog candy I always think to myself, why do I bother with this I never win these things. Well now I can actually say that Ive won, all I did was comment on the blog post. So here's the stamp set that I'll be getting

I haven't been scrapping these past few days because Im busy moving! That's right, my new scrap space is done! I did some trim painting this weekend and got everything moved down there (with the help of my wonderful dh of course). Now I need to figure out where everything is going to go and get it all put away. I learned one thing, I have a lot of stuff, I should consider doing some purging while I put things away. Hopefully I'll get some pics once I get everything put away. My niece is coming over this week to help and do some scrapping. Im excited that I have space now to have friends over.
Check back tomorrow for my recipe challenge card I made for Tamara's sketches.

Blog Candy Alert

I found out about this blog candy from one of the blogs I frequent. Check out her website and sign up for a chance to win the blog candy she has to offer. Just a hint of what she has, Stampin Up, which is my new addiction and some Bella stamp images, which I love even though I don't own any Bella stamps myself. Anyway, check out her blog http://javablustamper.blogspot.com/

Blogging Friends Forever Award

I got an award from one of the gals whose blog I frequent and now I have to pass it on to 4 of my blogging friends. Im not quite sure which bloggers follow my blog since I don't get a lot of comments but I think I can come up with 4 :)

The rules for the "Blogging Friends Forever" award are:* Only five people allowed* Four have to be dedicated followers of your blog* One has to be someone new or recently new to your blog or lives in another part of the world.* You must link back to whoever gave you the award.* The winner can put the logo on his/her blog

Sorry, I don't know how to do the link just within the name.

Tuesday Recipe Challenge

As I mentioned last week, I am on the design team for Tamara's weekly recipe challenges. One of the design team members picks three things that we have to use on a card or layout and the design team members has to make a sample for it.

This week's recipe challenge was to use 3 or more patterened papers, chipboard and circles. I found that it's a little more challenging or maybe it's just the change to do these samples than the sketches.

Here's my sample card I made. The scallop circle is chipboard and so is the circle tag and the green paper that looks like cardstock is actually patterned paper. The first time I used this stamp I thought, hmmm now I think I could get by with using that on a christmas card. I think it works ok. It's such a cute stamp so I couldn't resist :)

Be sure to check out the other cards and layouts made with this recipe at http://sketchesbytamara.blogspot.com/ and if you decide to play along just post a link to your layout or card into the comments section of Tamara's post.

It's been an Etsy day

I've been working on some things to put in my etsy store today. It's been slow going then this evening I ended up with a migraine so I wasn't able to get as much done as I wanted. But anyway, I did get some things listed and one of my cards, I no sooner got it listed and it was sold! How bout that, I was pretty excited. It was a fairly easy card to make and I had more supplies to make another one, so I listed it again, after all no one even got to see it on etsy lol.

So here's the card that sold right away. I used a new cuttlebug embossing folder. It turned out pretty cute and I am now becoming addicted to my cuttlebug.

I hope to be back tomorrow with some more creations for my etsy store.

Thusday's Sketch

It's thursday, time for a card from Tamara's sketch. This will be my last card for her card sketch but check back on tuesday (or is it wednesday) and I'll have a card designed for her new weekly recipe challenge. One of us design team members picks three things that have to be used on a card/layout and we create a card/layout sample each week. To me it's more of a challenge than the sketches but it'll be fun.

Ok, on to this weeks card. I did a bit of a hybrid card this week. I used a piece of card board for my card. It was fun to work with and I definately see more of it being used in the future.

Here's my creation.
And here's the sketch
Tamara would love it if you played along and created a cad from the sketch and posted a link to it in her comments on her blog. Also, check out what the others did with the sketch at http://sketchesbytamara.blogspot.com/

More sketch sites

I've found some more card sketch sites that I like. Some of the cards these people make are just amazing! It's inspiring to peak at them every now and then. I may even get a chance every once in a while to play along.

Check 'em out.

Another challenge card

We have card challenges every month at http://www.wisconsinscrappers.com/ and this month's challenge was to make a card using dry embossing, ribbon and a decorated envelope. I immediately knew I'd use my cuttlebug, I used the swiss dots pattern for this one. The pp is Nana's Kids, the butterfly was cut from a cricut (home accents cartridge I believe), I got a bunch of butterflies from Jackie, she just rak'd them to me and I am loving playing with them. I used DCWV scalloped cardstock too on this and the little template with the sentiment on it is a pack of Martha Stewart stickers I got at walmart! I love them and will probably have to pick up some more :)

Here's my card and envelope

Taylor's Sketch

I've always been meaning to do Taylor's sketch and tonight I got a chance. It didn't turn out quite how I pictured it but it's done. I did like the sketch and will have to keep it to use in the future.

Thursday card sketch

It's card sketch time! Next week will be my last card for Tamara's card sketch, my time is up with the design team and I've had a lot of fun making the cards and learning some new things. However, even though Im done with the card sketch design team, Tamara is starting a new weekly card challenge the beginning of September and she has asked me to be on the design team for that! So I will still be posting weekly cards for Tamara's sketches. Check out her blog if you get a chance, she has things going on all the time over there.

Ok, onto this week's card. I had fun with this one because I got to play with some fun girly colors and I got to use one of the butterflies that I received from one of my fellow design team gals, Jackie. Thank you again Jackie, the butterflies are just beautiful, I love them! I also did some stitching on this one, my sewing machine wasn't too badly buried and I haven't sewn on a card in awhile so I decided to do some stitching this week (a technique I love doing).

Here's the card
Be sure to go over to www.sketchesbytamara.blogspot.com to see what the other design team members did with this week's sketch.

Some classes

Summer is winding down which means classes at the local scrapbook store start up. I got the rest of the year's classes scheduled and can't wait to do them. The plan is for me to teach 2 classes a month. I'm also doing open scrap nights there the 2nd friday of each month. So that means more scrapping supplies for me :) I don't usually have a problem using up my credit :)
Here's pics of two of the classes I will be doing. The first one will be in October 3rd. It's a fold out album that you make with 6 pieces of paper, Ive done these in a smaller version too, they're fun to make and something quick and inexpensive for a little gift album. Here's the cover...well I thought I'd be able to show the cover, for some reason it won't download.

And here's 4 of the pages that we will finish in the class.

And the other class that I have the sample done for is a calendar class which will be November 17th. In this class we will do the months of Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr. We wanted to keep the cost of the within reason and the class time short so that's why only 4 months are being done, but it gives a great start for a calendar and the lss has all the supplies to finish the other months. For this class it's all BoBunny products that make a 9x9 calendar, a perfect gift for grandma/grandpa, mom/dad, friend or whoever. The thing I like about this class is pretty much all that's involved is the paper and some stickers oh and pop dots to give it some dimension.

Here's the sample pages.

If you're interested in taking these classes, let me know, I'd be happy to give you the information to get signed up at the local scrapbook store. And I'll be sharing more samples for my other upcoming classes as I get them done.

Cuttlebug Cards

I got some of the new Cuttlebug embossing folders and was playing around with them the last couple days. I love these because I can whip up simple yet elegant cards and they don't really cost that much to do. It seems like when I do my Christmas cards I'm probably investing 10x's more than if I were to go out and buy premium Hallmark cards lol.

Here's some of the cards I made. This first one is the holly folder. I struggled with this one, I ended up embossing the holly on a plain green cardstock then I used my brayer to ink the raised part of the embossing with a metallic copper, I inked the edges of the red cardstock and tag. On the tag I stamped "Merry Christmas" and a couple holly images (it's hard to see) then I just added the red & gold ribbon. It looks better in person, actually all of them do.

I used the snowflake dots (I think that's the name of this one) folder for this one. I used a shimmery white paper to emboss the image, you really can't tell in the pic. Each of the snowflakes have a dab of glitter glue in the center of them for a little extra "bling". Then I just scored the area for the "Seasons Greetings". I also added some red glitter glue for the berries.

For this one I also used the snowflake dots on the shimmery cardstock. The square was embossed with the swiss dots template and the snowflake is one of the cuttlebug templates too. I added some glitter glue to the snowflake and a jewel for additional "bling".

And this is the last one. This one is my favorite. I actually went back to the store to buy this folder. I think this one is called the lace tree. I embossed this one on a light blue shimmery cardstock then used my brayer to ink the embossing with a metallic silver and then I added some jewels to the snowflake at the bottom of the tree. This one is so much prettier in person. I haven't completed this one yet, when I mount it on the card I might add a piece of sheer ribbon like the first card or I might just leave it as is, simple & elegant. DH always tells me I get carried away with all that "stuff" and they get too busy lol.

Thanks for looking. I've got a bunch of other cards started that I hope to maybe work on tonight, so I might have more to share later :) I also need to get going on more christmas cards because at the 1st of the year I decided I would make 4 cards a month so I could have all my christmas cards completed by the end of October! Needless to say, this batch of cards is my "April" batch lol. Of course if I just whip out 3 more of each card I can be all caught up :)

Thursday Card Sketch

As promised I have a card to share with you for Tamara's sketch. When I saw the sketch I knew right away that I wanted to use my new inkadinkado stamp that I just got after seeing Tammy's card from last week using a stamp from the same line. I actually picked up 6, yes 6 of the inkadinkado bird stamps after seeing her card LOL. They're pretty cute and Im thinking I could even use them for some christmas cards with the right colors. Im fairly new to stamping and Im not really good at this whole coloring thing yet especially with what few markers I have (I sure wish I had some Copics) and Im not sure if I like color pencil or not and the water color thing just doesn't seem to be working quite right for me. I guess I just need more practice.

Anyway, on to the card and sketch. Here's my card

And here's Tamara's sketch

A Card Sketch & A Birthday

Good Thursday everybody! This week sure has flown by and since it's Thursday it's time to show you my card for Tamara's card sketch this week.

This week's card was one I made for my dad for his birthday which was friday. The family got together on Sunday to celebrate with him and we had a great time playing on the river and just being together, oh yeah and our trip to Belt's Ice Cream, Dad's birthday wouldn't be complete without Belt's :) I actually got to spend Friday evening & Saturday evening last weekend with my dad too. Friday us kids went for fish fry with mom & dad. Then Saturday was the annual car cruise and I got to ride along with dad in his '98 Vette & then out for supper at Culvers. The car cruise is always a good time and they had a phenomenal turn out this year.

On to the card. My card is a bit of a twist from the original sketch & I knew immediately what I was going to do when I saw the sketch. I found an old pic of dad and one of his cars and used that for the front of the card. I had some fun doing this one trying to come up with a photo. The card ended up being a 5x7 card since I used a 4x6 photo.

And here is the sketch

A little more progress

OK, so I've made a little more progress on my scrap room this weekend, plus I've made my color decision that I was having such a tough time with. I don't have any pics to share today but I will as soon as I take some. I finished priming the room and got the ceiling painted. I was hoping to stop and pick up my paint this evening on my way home and get started on that. And the color choice will be......a light pink. I decided that since this room will be my "girly" get away Im going to go shabby chic with it. I have a few things left from my store that I can use to decorate and I also picked up a couple storage pieces this weekend. One item is a printer's tray that I'm going to hang and put all my rubber stamps on. I should paint it but Im just not liking the idea of painting all those little dividers, we'll see. The other thing I got was 2 drawers from an old sewing machine cabinet, they're a little ornate and would look great painted white then distressed. I saw a little crystal chandelier the other day that I really want and it's on sale "as is" because it's missing some crystals. I didn't buy it yet because Im not ready for it, hopefully it'll still be there when I am ready for it. I can't wait to get the room painted, another step closer to moving my stuff down there.

Time for another card sketch

It's Thursday, which means it's time for another card from Tamara's card sketch. My creativeness has not been flowing lately. I can't wait to get my room done so I can get back into doing more scrapping. Here's my card for this week, I used scraps from a card I did earlier in the month.

Scrap space

There hasn't been much more going on this week on the new space. I hope to maybe make some progress this weekend though, if I can make up my mind on what color to paint lol. At first I was thinking a light pink and going shabby chic with it all but now Im leaning towards a medium dark brown and have some pink accents, I really love the chocolate browns.

I just thought I'd share some of the pieces I am hoping to use in my new space. This first piece is a cabinet that is in my grandpa's (now my dad's) shop. I love this cabinet and really hope I am able to get it into the basement so I can use it. It'll give me lots of enclosed storage and it's a such a neat piece of furniture on top of that. It'll need some cleaning and maybe a paint job.

The other organization piece I hope will work for my space is a display fixture that my wonderful dh got from his work. Those of you familiar with the "clip it up", this will be so much better I think lol. DH has already got part of it set up in the garage for his tools. Im thinking 4 panels will be enough for me.
Doesn't it look like it would hold tons of stuff! And where it says "graphics" comes out so I can label it whatever I want. Im thinking this will be great for my metal embellishments, stickers, chipboard and ribbons & fiber. Im sure I'll have no problem at all filling them up though LOL.

Do you have any scrapping organizing/storage tips? Leave me a comment, I'd love to hear what you do in your scrap space. I may even use your tip :)

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

So here it goes....

I've been desparately cleaning up the basement so I can move my scrap space down there and have lots more room and space to have friends over to scrap. Well I not only had to clean up my area I want to move to but the entire basement! DH said I can't move down there unless the whole basement was organized. It's probably good that he made me do that because I have such a hard time completing anything.

Now for some scary pics of my progress. This is what the space looked like before I did anything to it. Yes, there is a bunk bed in there somewhere. It's amazing how much junk one accumulates when living in one place for 13 years!

Here's a during shot of the clean up. Do you see the bunk bed now lol.

And here it is pretty much all cleaned up. The beds will be going in the spare room where my scrap space is now. Im pretty much ready to start painting as soon as I pick my color.

***disclaimer: the colors on the walls were not picked out by me, I let dh paint the basement and pick out the colors :)

Stay tuned for more pics as I go.

Time again for a card sketch

I tinkered around with this sketch this week and finally got it to go together. I do like how it turned out and it reminds me of the daisies blooming along side my potting shed (which is yellow btw). I used my favorite embossing cuttlebug folder on this one, the swiss dots. The patterned paper is some Crate Paper that I had scraps of and the glittered brads I just picked up last week and I love them! I think I'll be getting more.

Here's my card

And here's Tamara's sketch (sorry it's kinda small)

Check out what the other design team gals did with this sketch on Tamara's blog at http://sketchesbytamara.blogspot.com/

Hopefully I'll have a couple more posts before next week's card sketch. I have a number of cards to make and get sent out this week. Im also thinking of relocating my scraproom so if I do take the plunge I'll post some before & during pics if I get a start on it this week.
